Lafayette's City Council meets Monday, Aug. 10, with votes on downtown parking management, a $165,189 pedestrian crossing contract and the first regular session after Friday's candidate filing deadline for three council seats.
The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at Don Tatzin Community Hall, 3491 Mt. Diablo Blvd. The full agenda is posted on the city's Granicus page.
Election context
Three council seats appear on the Nov. 3 ballot, as we reported in July. The filing deadline is Friday, Aug. 7, at 5 p.m. As of Aug. 3, four candidates had pulled nomination papers, according to Contra Costa News: incumbents Susan Candell, Jim Cervantes and Stella Wotherspoon, plus challenger Mario DiPrisco. The final certified list will not be available until after the deadline closes.
What's on the agenda
Parking management. Under old business, the council will consider Resolution 2026-36, which would authorize one final extension and then termination of existing lease agreements at city-owned lots at 3429 and 3299 Mt. Diablo Blvd.
Hampton Road crossing. On the consent calendar, the council would award a $165,189 construction contract to Franco Engineering, Inc. for the Mt. Diablo Boulevard and Hampton Road Crossing Project, with $50,000 released from Fund-14 to cover a shortfall.
Refunding bonds. Financial Services Manager Tim Przybyla and Del Rio Advisors principal Kenneth L. Dieker will present a resolution authorizing staff to refinance Successor Agency bonds.
Vesce settlement. The council will vote on a settlement agreement with Brian J. and Allyson Vesce tied to litigation over 3654 Happy Valley Road.
New committees. Mayor Anduri and Vice Mayor McCormick are sponsoring appointments of seven members to the new Multi-Modal Mobility Advisory Committee. Councilmembers Wotherspoon and Cervantes are sponsoring Youth Commission appointments.
Legislation. The Legislation Committee, made up of Councilmembers Candell and Cervantes, recommends the council support SB 1167 on electric bicycles and AB 1370 on wildfire mitigation projects.
Sherry Hoover. The council will accept the resignation of Sherry Hoover from the Emergency Preparedness Commission. Hoover served as a volunteer for 32 years.
Design standards not on this agenda
Objective design standards that were before the Planning Commission did not advance to the Aug. 10 agenda. The commission cancelled its Aug. 3 meeting and pushed hearings to Aug. 17, meaning the standards could reach the council at a later date.
