Lafayette residents who want a seat on the City Council have until Friday, August 7, to file nomination papers. Three of the five council seats are on the ballot for the Tuesday, November 3, statewide election.

The city began accepting filings Monday, July 13, according to a post on the city's official Love Lafayette social media account. If an eligible incumbent does not file by the August 7 deadline, it extends to Wednesday, August 12. Incumbents Susan Candell, Jim Cervantes, and Stella Wotherspoon hold the three open seats. None had announced plans to step down as of the filing period's opening, according to Patch. Details are at LoveLafayette.org/Election.

State of the City on Monday's agenda

Mayor Anduri will deliver a State of the City address at the council's Monday, July 20, meeting at 7 p.m. in the Don Tatzin Community Hall at the Lafayette Library & Learning Center, 3491 Mt. Diablo Blvd. The only other listed item is a formal appreciation of city commission, committee, and task force members. Both are designated "receive and file," meaning no vote is expected.

The meeting will also stream on the City of Lafayette YouTube channel. Each speaker gets up to three minutes.

New mobility committee takes shape

The filing period opened during a busy week for the council. On Wednesday, July 15, a council subcommittee interviewed two candidates for the city's new Multi-Modal Mobility Advisory Committee: Amy Budahn, an Air Resources Supervisor with the California Air Resources Board and seven-year Lafayette resident, and Jeff Peacock, a retired 34-year resident who authored Lafayette's first Trails Master Plan. The committee's primary project is the Mt. Diablo Boulevard Corridor Multimodal Mobility Plan, focused on improving walking, biking, and transit access along Mt. Diablo Boulevard downtown. Appointments have not been announced.
