Orinda police closed Camino Pablo in both directions Wednesday, Sept. 9, after a traffic accident shut down a major north-south corridor through the city.

Officers blocked the stretch between Santa Maria and Camino Sobrante at about 10 a.m., Patch reported. Police did not release details about the number of vehicles involved, injuries or the cause of the crash.

The closure affected a road that links directly to the Highway 24 Orinda exit and connects to Moraga Way to the south, according to the city's website. Drivers heading to or from Moraga, or using Highway 24 on-ramps near the Orinda Village area, had to find other paths through town.

"It's a very busy street and place … It's a major throughfare here," Orinda Police spokesperson Officer Chanel Taliaferro said in an Aug. 14 East Bay Times article about a separate incident on the same road near Highway 24.

The intersections involved in the Sept. 9 closure have seen prior collisions. City collision data presented to Orinda's Traffic Safety Advisory Committee shows a two-vehicle crash with injuries at Camino Pablo and Camino Sobrante on Dec. 23, 2025. A vehicle-bicycle collision with injuries occurred at Camino Pablo and Santa Maria on Jan. 14, 2026.

The City of Orinda later announced on Facebook that Camino Pablo had reopened in both directions. "Thank you for your patience," the city said in the post. "Please drive safely and continue to use caution while traveling through the area."
