Saint Mary's sophomore setter Sadie White earned her second West Coast Conference Setter of the Week award in three weeks, the WCC announced Monday, Oct. 12.
White became the first Gaels setter to win the award twice in the same year since the conference created it in 2025.
The honor came after White helped Saint Mary's go 2-0 with a 3-0 sweep of Seattle U on Thursday, Oct. 8, and a 3-1 win over Portland on Saturday, Oct. 10, at UCU Pavilion in Moraga. The Seattle U match was the Gaels' first conference sweep of the season, according to the school’s recap.
Across the two matches, White averaged more than 11 assists per set and added 22 digs, two aces, six blocks and five kills. Against Portland, she posted 40 assists and 13 digs for her fifth double-double of the season.
White reclaimed the starting setter role Sept. 17 against New Mexico, according to the school’s Sept. 29 preview. Since then, the Gaels have gone 6-2, according to SMC Athletics. The athletics department said White has continued to run the Gaels' offense.
White was not the only Gael recognized. Antonie Kelnarova, a native of Prague, Czechia, won Saint Mary's Student-Athlete of the Week after recording 31 kills, seven aces and two blocks in the same two matches, according to the school’s award announcement. She was also nominated for the WCC Offensive Player of the Week.
Kelnarova leads the WCC with 307.5 points and 46 aces on the season. Her ace total ranks second in single-season program history, four shy of Alexsa Parker's program record of 50, according to the Portland recap.
The 4-1 conference start after the Seattle U win was Saint Mary's best since 2010 and the second-best in program history, according to the Seattle U recap. The Gaels (10-8 overall) reached double-digit wins faster than any Saint Mary's team since 2021, according to the Portland recap.
Saint Mary's plays at San Francisco on Thursday, Oct. 15, at 6 p.m. on ESPN+. A road match at Santa Clara follows later in the week, according to the official schedule.
