Lafayette School District schools that lead Res Run for Education registration by Sept. 30 stand to collect a $500 bonus donation through the event's Race-Before-the-Race competition.
Two more $500 prizes are at stake: one for the school with the most registrations by race day and another for the school with the largest increase over the prior year's numbers, according to Patch.
The Lafayette Chamber of Commerce and the City of Lafayette co-sponsor the annual run, set for Sunday, Oct. 18. The 5K begins at 8 a.m., the 10K at 8:15 a.m. and the 2-mile fun run at 8:45 a.m. Runners who prefer to go at their own pace can join the virtual Reservoir Challenge from Oct. 11 through Oct. 17.
The 2025 race drew nearly 2,200 runners and raised $37,611 in beneficiary checks for local public schools. The run benefits all Lafayette public schools along with Miramonte and Campolindo high schools, according to Lamorinda Weekly. Participants can direct their registration donation to a specific school and may sponsor a teacher or staff member.
The 10K loops around the Lafayette Reservoir, while the 5K follows a flat course. Strollers and dogs are welcome in the 2-mile fun run/walk, the 10K and the Reservoir Challenge, according to the Bay Area Telegraph. Skateboards, scooters and bikes are not permitted.
Dana Chery, greeted at the finish line by her husband and two children holding handmade signs, summed up the draw. "It was incredible. I love this opportunity to give back to the school system and stay in shape," she said after the Oct. 20, 2024 Res Run.
In a July announcement, the City of Lafayette said the first 100 students from each school to register would receive a quarter-pound candy voucher from Zoonie's Candy Toy and Gelato at packet pickup. Oakwood Athletic Club is a long-time sponsor.
Registration is open at lafayettechamber.org/resrun.
