An Orinda mother-and-daughters team that turned a rare cancer syndrome into a nationally distributed skincare line earned an editors' pick in Diablo Magazine's 2026 Best of the East Bay: Beauty, Health & Wellness awards, published Friday, Aug. 7.

Kelly Bitzer and her daughter Haley both carry Li-Fraumeni syndrome, a rare genetic mutation in the TP53 tumor suppressor gene that dramatically raises lifetime cancer risk. That made toxin-free skincare personal, not optional.

During the COVID-19 lockdown, Bitzer's two adult daughters, Bridget and Haley, moved home. The family spent the downtime testing collagen face masks and couldn't find one that met their standards. So they built their own. Bitzer, her daughters and her brother launched Ametta Skin in January 2024, selling gel face and eye masks made with marine collagen, free of parabens, artificial fragrance and alcohol.

The line has since landed at boutiques and spas across the country, including national lifestyle retailer Terrain (an Anthropologie sister brand), and earned a segment on ABC's "The View," according to Diablo Magazine.

"We wanted to create clean formulas that combine healthy and natural high-performance ingredients with a luxurious experience, so people could achieve healthy, radiant skin without compromising quality," Bitzer told the magazine.
