Three Orinda residents with deep volunteer ties have joined the board of The Orinda Association, the 80-year-old nonprofit that runs the Classic Car Show, the Seniors Around Town ride program and The Orinda News.
Mary Jo Ashby, Scott Honeychurch and Joseph Vogel were announced as new board members Monday, July 27, according to The Orinda News. Ashby and Honeychurch, both residents of the Wilder neighborhood, were nominated by Kathy Cordova, a Wilder neighbor and former executive editor of The Orinda News.
Mary Jo Ashby: ER nurse turned safety advocate
Ashby moved to Orinda from Madison, Wis., in 2014, making her family one of the first to settle in Wilder. A retired emergency department registered nurse at John Muir Medical Center, she has since stacked volunteer roles: Wilder Block Captain, CERT member, Emergency Preparedness Committee volunteer and chair of the Wilder Security Committee.
"Neighbors look out for one another, people volunteer, and when challenges arise, residents step up to help," Ashby told The Orinda News.
She said she hopes to strengthen community connections while promoting emergency preparedness and public safety on the OA board.
Scott Honeychurch: car show chair and Wilder HOA veteran
Honeychurch moved to Orinda from Danville in 2018, though his family's ties run deeper. His grandparents settled in Sleepy Hollow after leaving Berkeley in the 1960s. A fifth-generation San Francisco native who grew up in a military family and lived in nine places before finishing high school, he now owns a building materials company specializing in high-end windows and doors.
He served as president of the Wilder homeowners association and is chairing the 2026 Orinda Classic Car Show, scheduled for Saturday, September 12, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 61 Orinda Way. Admission is free for spectators, and proceeds benefit the Seniors Around Town program.
Honeychurch told The Orinda News his car addiction "was passed down from my father, who never said 'no' when I dragged home more project cars than I could ever finish."
Joseph Vogel: from Lafayette neighbor to ride coordinator
Vogel spent 13 years in Lafayette before settling in Orinda with his wife in 2024. He began volunteering with the OA's Seniors Around Town program in September 2025 and took on a part-time role as Ride Program Coordinator in February 2026, connecting volunteer drivers with senior riders who need door-to-door transportation.
He credited Eloise Sotelo with mentoring him as he became more involved with the organization.
