Nine Lamorinda swim clubs will send more than 1,700 swimmers to the Soda Aquatic Center at Campolindo High School in Moraga for the 69th annual Orinda Moraga Pool Association Championships, scheduled for Friday, July 31, through Sunday, August 2.
The three-day meet is one of the largest recreational swim competitions in the country, according to the Lamorinda Weekly, and the biggest event of the summer league season for families across Orinda and Moraga.
Orinda Country Club enters the meet defending a winning streak that stretches back more than two decades. The Lamorinda Weekly reported OCC's 2024 title as its 23rd consecutive championship victory. The Orinda News confirmed OCC has won the Orinda Lions Perpetual Trophy at least 10 straight seasons, noting that team totals are not available prior to 2015.
The streak is long.
Meadow Swim and Tennis finished second in 2025, according to The Orinda News. Sleepy Hollow Swim and Tennis rounded out the top three in both 2023 and 2024, according to the Lamorinda Weekly.
Nine clubs will compete. The confirmed roster includes Campolindo Cabana, Meadow Swim and Tennis, Moraga Country Club, Moraga Ranch, Moraga Valley Pool, Orinda Country Club, Orinda Park Pool, and Sleepy Hollow Swim and Tennis.
OCC head coach Steve Haufler told the Lamorinda Weekly after the 2024 championship that the meet's atmosphere lifts his swimmers. "This is a big deal for the community, having all nine teams together, spending the weekend competing, having fun," Haufler said in August 2024.
The East Bay Sea Serpents, affiliated with the Special Olympics of Northern California, have participated in the OMPA Championships every year since 2012. At the 2024 meet, the Sea Serpents fielded their largest group ever with 25 swimmers, according to the Lamorinda Weekly.
Three perpetual trophies are at stake: the Orinda Lions Perpetual Trophy for first place, the Orinda Chamber of Commerce Perpetual Award for second, and the Orinda Rotary Club Perpetual Trophy for third.
The meet rotates directors among the clubs each year. In 2024, Ann Elliott and Ashley Brush of Moraga Country Club co-directed the event, which featured 1,686 swimmers and 491 heats across the weekend.
Results and final standings will be published after the meet concludes on Sunday, August 2.
