Got a painting in the attic you've always wondered about? A pocket watch from your grandmother?

The Moraga Historical Society is giving residents a chance to find out what their treasures are worth at an appraisal fundraiser on Sunday, August 30, at the Casita at Hacienda de las Flores, 2100 Donald Drive, Moraga.

For a $20 donation (MHS members) or $25 (non-members), attendees can bring up to three items for a verbal, fair market appraisal. Eligible items include paintings, sculpture, stamps, coins, jewelry, watches, furniture, Asian art, and sports memorabilia, according to the Lamorinda Weekly's event calendar.

The appraisals will be conducted in partnership with Michaan's Auctions, the Lamorinda Weekly reported. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

About the Moraga Historical Society

The all-volunteer nonprofit was established in 1965 to preserve the history of the Rancho Laguna de los Palos Colorados land grant, which encompasses present-day Moraga and portions of Orinda and Lafayette. The society maintains the Moraga History Center at 1500 St. Mary's Road, open Thursdays from 1 to 3 p.m. or by appointment.

The Hacienda de las Flores itself carries local roots. The nine-acre, town-owned estate dates to a 1916 Spanish-style ranch house. Moraga purchased the property in 1973 for $343,750, and the facility was dedicated in 1979.
