Two Lafayette breweries will pour Oktoberfest beers Saturday, Oct. 3, while a Serbian food festival and volunteer projects fill Moraga's calendar, giving Lamorinda residents a packed first weekend of October.

Western Flyer Brewing and Headlands Brewing, both on Mt. Diablo Boulevard, are hosting dueling Oktoberfest celebrations. The overlap was reported by the Bay Area Telegraph.

Western Flyer Brewing at 3660 Mt. Diablo Blvd. wraps up a two-weekend Oktoberfest run Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 3–4. The brewery is offering four limited-release beers and Bavarian food. Activities include a traditional attire contest, a stein-holding competition, a kids' coloring contest and puzzle races. "Come join us for good food, good beer, and fun for the whole family!" the brewery wrote on Instagram. Weekend hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday. Free underground parking is available, with the entrance at the stoplight on the west side of the building.

Headlands Brewing at 3420 Mt. Diablo Blvd. holds its main Lafayette Oktoberfest from noon to 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3. The tap list features five Headlands beers, German imports from Weihenstephan, Hofbräuhaus München, Köstritzer and Veltins, and guest taps from Wondrous Brewing and Danville Brewing Co. Visitors can order curated flights or one-liter mugs. A $20 pairing bundles a one-liter pour with a Biergarten Pretzel. Admission is free; food and drinks cost extra. The Lafayette location offers indoor seating and outdoor tables near the Lafayette-Moraga Trail, and dogs are welcome.

Both breweries feature stein-holding contests.

Serbian Food Festival: Holy Trinity Serbian Orthodox Church, 1700 School St. in Moraga, hosts its annual Serbian Food Festival from noon to 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3. Entry is free. The event features food, drinks and live music, with proceeds going toward church hall renovations, according to an Instagram post by organizer Vuja Jovic.

Moraga Community Service Days run Friday through Sunday, Oct. 2–4. Volunteers can sign up for humanitarian projects and school beautification efforts spread across Moraga. The Moraga Chamber of Commerce said projects suit many ages. One returning effort, the Ladybug Bags project, has volunteers assemble kits for underserved and unhoused women and girls in Contra Costa County. A leadership committee of 10 local groups coordinates the weekend, including Campolindo High School students, Kiwanis Club of Moraga Valley, Lamorinda Lions Club, Moraga Rotary and St. Mary's College. Sign-ups are at MoragaServiceDay.org.

Bring water and plan for shade at outdoor events.
