Crews building Lafayette's BART Bike Station have finished milling asphalt and started forming curbs and ramps at the east end of the site.

The city's Thursday, Oct. 8 project update lists work scheduled for the week starting Tuesday, Oct. 13. The contractor plans to pour a slurry cement base for the storm drain trench and ramp. Crews will also pour concrete for catch basins, curb, gutter and ramp, and pave the asphalt inlay. Formwork for the concrete curb, gutter and ramp will continue.

The project has a $2.59 million construction contract; BART estimates its total cost at $3.2 million. Once complete, the work will connect the Lafayette BART station to the existing Town Center pathway with an ADA-compliant shared-use path for cyclists and pedestrians.

The finished project includes four parts: a secure bike station at BART's south entrance with space for up to 82 bicycles, a public plaza and vehicle turnaround that will repurpose 19 BART permit parking spaces, an art installation and the shared-use pathway.

The Lafayette City Council awarded the construction contract to Integra Construction Services of Pleasanton in October 2025. The engineer's estimate had been $2.3 million, but the winning bid came in at $2.59 million after bids opened on Aug. 14, 2025, according to the city's project page.

Construction began in March 2026 according to the city, and was expected to wrap by the end of summer 2026. That timeline has slipped.

At a May 11 City Council meeting, Director of Engineering and Public Works Mike Moran said progress had been slower than expected, as Lamorinda Weekly reported in June. Moran said work could continue for another year. The Oct. 8 update does not give a revised completion date.

Planning for the project began in 2014. The first pathway segment between the Town Center and BART was completed in 2018.

Construction hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. Emergency vehicles will always have access to the site.

The city says it posts weekly updates by 5 p.m. each Friday on the project webpage. Residents can sign up through the city’s e-notification page.
