Crews working on Lafayette's BART Bike Station and Pathway Project continued demolishing old concrete surfacing and placing formwork for new curbs, the city said in a Sept. 4 project update.
The week of Tuesday, Sept. 8 brings the next round of work. The contractor plans to complete the curb formwork, trench and install electrical conduit and irrigation sleeves, lay a slurry cement base and pour concrete for two art pole foundations.
The art pole foundations are a visible step forward. Through July and August, work centered on tearing out old concrete surfacing, excavating for storm drains and drilling holes for the art poles, according to earlier city updates.
A July 31 update showed the contractor demolishing concrete and excavating for art poles and storm drain. By the Aug. 7 update, crews had begun drilling for two art poles and excavating for storm drain, with plans to start forming concrete curbs and bands the following week.
Now the project is layering in infrastructure beneath the surface. Electrical conduit and irrigation sleeves, first planned for the week of Aug. 3, appear again on the Sept. 8 schedule alongside the new slurry cement base.
Construction runs 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The city said emergency vehicles will always have access through the work zone.
No completion date set
The project has moved slower than city officials expected. Director of Engineering and Public Works Mike Moran told the Lafayette City Council at its May 11 meeting that work was "finally underway" but could continue for another year, the Lamorinda Weekly reported.
No updated completion date or total project cost has appeared in the city's weekly updates since then.
