Crews building Lafayette's BART Bike Station and Pathway will continue concrete and drainage work the week of Monday, Oct. 5, including pouring concrete for a ramp and catch basins.

The city's weekly construction update, posted Friday, Oct. 2, said the contractor had removed formwork for new curbs, a gutter and a ramp the previous week. Workers also began installing storm drain pipe, forming two catch basins and trenching for irrigation pipe.

The Oct. 5 work plan calls for placing formwork for the concrete curb, gutter and ramp. Crews will also install irrigation and storm drain pipe, pour a slurry cement base for the storm drain trench and ramp, and pour concrete for the catch basins and ramp.

Work runs 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. Emergency vehicles will have access at all times.

The $2.59 million project, awarded to Integra Construction Services of Pleasanton on Oct. 14, 2025, aims to improve pedestrian and bicycle access to the Lafayette BART station. The engineer's estimate had been $2.3 million.

It includes four pieces: an ADA-compliant shared-use path connecting the station to the existing Town Center pathway, a public plaza replacing 19 BART permit parking spaces, a secure bike station with room for 82 bicycles at the station's south entrance and an art installation in the plaza.

Construction began in March 2026. The project webpage originally estimated completion by the end of summer 2026, but work is still underway. Lafayette Director of Engineering and Public Works Mike Moran told the City Council during a June 2026 capital improvement presentation that progress had been slower than anticipated and the project could continue for another year, as Lamorinda Weekly reported. No updated completion date has been announced.

Planning for the pathway dates to 2014, when the Town Center condominium project was under review. A condition of that approval required developers to upgrade a narrow asphalt path to BART. That segment was finished in 2018.
