Crews working on the Lafayette BART Bike Station and Pathway project will pour concrete for art pole foundations and begin forming curbs along the pathway the week of Aug. 24, according to a city construction update posted Friday, Aug. 21.

The contractor also plans to trench and install storm drain, electrical conduit and irrigation sleeves during the week.

Several of the tasks were also included in the city’s work plan for the week of Aug. 10, indicating that portions of the work have carried over from earlier schedules. That earlier plan called for installing formwork for two art pole foundations and pouring concrete, trenching for storm drain, trenching for electrical conduit and irrigation sleeves, and beginning to form concrete curbs and bands. By Aug. 21, the city reported that electrical conduit to the two art pole foundations had been completed.

The BART Pedestrian Pathway and Bike Station project began construction in summer 2025, but progress has been slower than anticipated. Director of Engineering and Public Works Mike Moran told the Lafayette City Council in May that work “could continue for another year,” as reported by Lamorinda Weekly on June 9. No firm completion date has been announced.

The finished project will connect the Lafayette BART station to the surrounding town center with a dedicated pedestrian and bicycle pathway, along with a bike station. Additional details are available on the city’s project webpage.

Construction hours run from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Emergency vehicles will have access at all times.
