Acalanes High in Lafayette needs 20 more adult chaperones for its Homecoming dance, where more than 1,100 students are expected.
The Acalanes Parents Club posted the call Monday, Sept. 14, as the school prepares for Homecoming week beginning Sunday, Sept. 20. The week runs through Saturday, Sept. 26, and includes a canned food drive, hallway decorating, a rally and the HOCO Night Out dance.
The annual canned food drive, which benefits the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano, launched Tuesday, Sept. 15. Last year's drive collected 47,899 meals for the food bank. The organization serves more than 65,000 households and distributes approximately 2.7 million meals each month, according to the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano.
Families looking to get involved can start Sunday. Hallway decorating runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the school opens its doors for a community walkthrough from 5 to 6 p.m.
Tickets for HOCO Night Out are on sale through GoFan. Students who purchased an Associated Student Body (ASB) sticker can enter their ID number as a promo code to get the $35 ticket price. ASB stickers cost $115 and include discounts or free entry to home athletic events, dances and a dozen local businesses. The Parents Club said sticker holders save at least $25 on Homecoming alone.
Students bringing a guest must submit a guest contract by Wednesday, Sept. 23.
The week wraps up with a Homecoming rally and Friday Night Lights on Friday, Sept. 25. Questions about student activities can be directed to activities director Katherine Walton at [email protected].
Families interested in chaperoning can sign up through the Parents Club.
