Contra Costa County mailed ballots Monday, Oct. 5, to every active registered voter ahead of the Nov. 3 general election.
Voters in Lafayette, Moraga and Orinda can fill out their ballots and return them right away. Each ballot comes with a postage-paid return envelope, which voters should seal and sign before returning.
“We want to make sure that voters know they can vote the way they want to vote with confidence,” Clerk-Recorder and Registrar of Voters Kristin B. Connelly said, according to the county’s Oct. 5 announcement. She urged voters to complete and return ballots as soon as possible.
Key deadlines
- Monday, Oct. 19: Last day to register or update an address online at registertovote.ca.gov. After that, voters can still register and vote in person at the Elections Division in Martinez, a regional early voting site or a polling place on Election Day. Voters who have not received a ballot by this date should call 925-335-7800 or email [email protected].
- Friday, Oct. 23: Recommended last day to mail a completed ballot so it receives a timely postmark and arrives in time to count.
- Friday, Oct. 30: The Elections Division asks voters to ensure their ballots are received by this date so votes appear in election-night results.
- Tuesday, Nov. 3, 8 p.m.: Drop boxes close. Mailed ballots must carry a postmark on or before Election Day and reach officials within seven days after Election Day to count.
Lamorinda drop boxes
The county has 43 official drop boxes open around the clock. Three are in Lamorinda, according to the county elections website:
- Lafayette School District Office, 3477 School St., Lafayette

The boxes opened Sunday, Oct. 4, and will stay open until 8 p.m. on Election Day.
