Contractors are scheduled to deliver and begin installing the steel structure for Lafayette’s new BART bike station this week, according to an Oct. 16 city project update.
The work is part of a project to improve the connection between the station and downtown, add secure bicycle parking and create a public plaza.
Other work scheduled for the week of Oct. 19 includes pouring foundations for two art poles and continuing construction of curbs, gutters and a ramp. Crews also plan to prepare concrete forms and lay a cement base.
The previous week, the contractor continued preparing those features at the site’s eastern end and completed some parking-lot paving, the city reported.
Project scope
Lafayette awarded a $2.59 million construction contract to Integra Construction Services of Pleasanton in fall 2025. BART estimated the overall project cost at $3.2 million in its February project notice.
The city says construction began in March 2026. Its project page still lists an earlier projection of completion by the end of summer. The Oct. 16 update does not provide a revised completion date.
The project includes an accessible shared-use pathway connecting the station to the existing Town Center pathway toward downtown.
A new plaza and vehicle turnaround will replace 19 BART permit parking spaces. The station’s south entrance will also gain secure parking for up to 82 bicycles and a public art installation.
Planning began in 2014 during review of the Town Center condominium development. Developers completed a required pathway segment in 2018. Lafayette, BART and the East Bay Municipal Utility District subsequently worked together on improving the remaining connection to the station.
What to know
Construction hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. The city says access will be maintained for emergency vehicles.
